Geauga Lake Amusement Park Ohio

BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Arial footage published recently shows the last roller coaster at Geauga Lake Amusement Park lurking like a skeleton among a cemetery of overgrown sidewalks and weeds.

Eight years after Cedar Fair, the owner of Cedar Point, shuttered the park, a video posted earlier this week by drone photography company Arial Agents, gives a new view of the 540 acres that once entertained generations of Northeast Ohioans.

The Big Dipper roller coaster still stands, but much of the property shown in the video is no longer discernible as it operated nearly a decade ago. Pathways have eroded, buildings demolished and landscaping has been overtaken by invasive plants.

The front gate still stands, as does the wooden frame of what was the Big Dipper rollercoaster.

Efforts to save the roller coaster, first built in 1925 and renovated in 1980 fell short after enthusiasts Harold Garmonsway and Kat Jones could not secure plans to buy and preserve the structure in 2011.
